Validating the Nurse Professional Competence Scale with Australian baccalaureate nursing students

Background Professional competence is necessary to enhance patients’ quality of care and safety, however not much known about nursing students’ perceptions their professional at the point graduation, particularly in Australian context. Aim To validate Nurse Competence (NPC) Scale context explore graduating own suggestions improve learning experience. Method A cross-sectional survey incorporating NPC was conducted with students graduation one large University. Results Fifty-six completed Scale. reliability measured via Cronbach’s alpha 0.96. Almost 80% felt confident skills that program had prepared them for a graduate position as registered nurse. Students reported highest Value-based Nursing Care (m = 89.4) Documentation & Administration 86.7), lowest were Development, Leadership Organisation 80.9) Pedagogy 83.0). Students’ most common suggestion experience provide additional clinical workplace Discussion The demonstrated excellent areas scored on congruent findings using this instrument other countries. Conclusion Further validation should include larger sample includes both from multiple universities well nurses incorporates confirmatory factor analysis.
